Chekov’s only in this episode for a couple of seconds, but he’s sporting my morning bed-head. Is Roddenberry trying to tell me something?
Anyhoo, this episode was originally aired on Halloween, in keeping with its use of a black cat and haunted castle and Macbeth-esque witch-ghosts and sorcerers (who are really tiny aliens). How does Kirk handle such a situation? He makes out with the female and then (huge risk here) breaks the shiny wand.
She reminds me of a bit a verse written by playwright William Congreve:
Women are like tricks by sleight of hand,
Which, to admire, we should not understand.
She also reminds me that — the first chance you get — you should always:
Bake the hall in the candle of her brain.
